Our Kontakt contact, Mr Montoya, checks out the latest bigly discounted bundle from Audio Plugin Deals. We think he likes it… You can currently get 70% off the Winds of Awesomeness Bundle by Embertone. Deal ends February 22nd.
WINDS. OF. AWESOMNESS! (cheesy echo not included)
I’ve been a huge fan of Embertone ever since I discovered this video of them showcasing Friedlander Violin all the way back in 2013. When Audio Plugin Guy approached me to review Embertone’s Winds of Awesome Bundle that’s currently on sale at Audio Plugin Deals I immediately knew I was in for a treat.
The Winds of Awesome Bundle contains 9 of Embertone’s best (and one hilarious sample library in particular, more on that later) wind instruments for the full version of Native Instrument’s Kontakt. Here’s a list of everything you’ll find inside:
Herring Clarinet – “This instrument is a warm and expressive classical clarinet with all the flexibility needed to create realistic woodwind parts! This instrument is a miracle in terms of flexibility, it can handle anything you throw at it… Super agility with a gorgeous tone = good times making music.”
Recorders – “The instruments sampled for this product are beautiful, handmade specimens, recorded with an insane level of detail. A stunning 4X round robin legato was delicately and meticulously captured over a 5-year period so that you can play ultra-realistic melodies and repetitive patterns with ease.”
The Charmer – “The Charmer is a unique and familiar little instrument in our arsenal. A middle-eastern, double reed shawm, with that beautiful, nasal tone, will be an asset to your collection! Whether you’re creating a score designed with middle eastern undertones, or you’re wishing to evoke a unique color to your music.”
Crystal Flute – “Crystal Flute – an instrument made from glass which possesses a magical and expressive sound. We went back to our roots to make an expressive little instrument, a la Jubal Flute and Ivory Wind. This is an instrument that we’ve wanted to sample for a very long time.”
Sensual Sax – “Enter Sensual Saxophone – the digital solution to sax saturation. Tease the sound at the start for a caress of the ear, and then blow a long note that busts below the belt. With the sentimental setting of sensual sax, you’ll always have the right accompaniment for an evening that echoes with pleasure.”
Mouth Trumpet – “Mouth trumpet is a vocal technique that imitates the sound of the trumpet. The mouth trumpet sound is produced by using the vocal cords to produce the desired pitch and passing the sound through the lips that are held together with just enough tension so that they vibrate at the same frequency as the vocal cords, producing a trumpet-like sound.”
Shire Whistle – “Made for Kontakt 4.2.4+ (NOT Kontakt Player), this instrument has the distinct sound of the Irish Whistle. This is a malleable and authentic instrument with true legato and glisses. Also has 16X RR staccato.”
Ocarina Amaya – “The ocarina is an ancient instrument, dating back over 12,000 years. This one, nicknamed “Amaya” (meaning “light rain”), has a pure tone that will bring you straight to the mountains of Hyrule.”
Jubal Flute – “The Jubal flute is named after its maker… Jubal. This mysterious man stopped by the music shop to put his instrument on consignment, and never showed up again. Maybe he moved away? Passed away? Or, what we like to believe, journeyed to Valinor with Frodo and the rest of his Elven kind.”
1 Part Lazy, 2 Parts Speechless— A Review to Rule Them All
Normally I would write a mini-review for each sample library that’s included in this bundle, but I feel like what I have to say pretty much describes every single instrument. Seriously, I was BLOWN away (pun definitely intended) by the quality of this bundle. Embertone was able to capture pure emotion from every instrument they recorded; it almost sounds like you have your own personal session artist. This bundle is perfect for creating mock-ups and final products for music, film, television, and video games. Every sample library features multiple articulations and playing styles that allow you to create a truly authentic and live sound.
One of the lesser useful, but definitely entertaining, instruments in this bundle is the Mouth Trumpet. I think Embertone describes it best— “One part fun, two parts crazy and totally @#%$ing weird… Now with just one virtual instrument you can infuse some humor into your music, mock the brass trumpet, confuse your family and friends, all while enjoying strange animation on the main page of the interface.”
And for Sensual Sax, this is the only review you’ll ever need:
*iOS version shown, but the samples are the same.
If none of the other super-awesome instruments catch your attention, then at least buy this bundle for Sensual Sax. Even if you don’t use this for your commercial productions, you’ll have hours of fun (no, I’m not kidding—literal HOURS of fun) improvising your own melodies to Careless Whisper.
