8Dio launches Soundpaint Engine 5.0 as free sampler plugin and standalone for Windows and Mac.

News: 8Dio launches Soundpaint Engine 5.0 as free sampler plugin and standalone for Windows and Mac.

8Dio has launched Soundpaint Engine 5.0, a free sampler instrument engine for Windows and macOS, available as both a standalone application and a plugin for compatible DAWs. The update adds new sample-editing, sequencing, performance, tuning, effects, and multi-instrument features to the Soundpaint platform.

Soundpaint is designed for playing sampled instruments within a host DAW or as a separate desktop application. 8Dio lists compatibility with software including Ableton Live, FL Studio, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase, Studio One, Reason, and Bitwig.

The free Soundpaint Engine includes a selection of instruments, including a 1928 Steinway grand piano. It also provides access to Soundpaint-format instrument libraries from 8Dio and other sample developers.

Version 5.0 introduces Brush, a built-in sample editor for importing and editing user samples. According to 8Dio, users can import samples with a single action, layer up to 127 samples per key, and use morphing functions within the editor.

The new release also expands Soundpaint’s performance and sequencing tools:

  • Next-gen Arp, an arpeggiator supporting sequences of up to 2,000 steps.
  • Rack Round Robin for automated round-robin behaviour.
  • Rack Drift and Rack 505, designed to introduce vintage synth-style drift behaviour.
  • Micro Tune, which includes more than 130 tuning systems and support for importing custom tunings.
  • Rack Legato HAL4, a new legato performance rack.
  • Time Pro Phrase, for playing phrases with legato-style transitions.
  • Pitch Bender, providing diatonic pitch-bending options.
  • Modwheel Strummer, a mod-wheel-controlled strumming mode.

Soundpaint Engine 5.0 also adds an Effects Dynamics section with processing options including tape boost, sidechaining, and transient-focused controls. A Delay Sound Mode allows timing control over when individual parts begin playback.

For layered setups, the engine now supports multi-timbral operation with up to 32 instruments loaded and played together. Soundpaint instruments available separately include collections such as Disco Studio Strings UDS, Nuno 106, Bansuri Virtuoso, Juniper 1982, Vivaldi’s Solo Violin, CS80, Requiem Choir, Moody, and Dunescape III.

Soundpaint Engine 5.0 is available free of charge for Windows and macOS, including the 1928 Steinway instrument. Additional Soundpaint instrument libraries and a complete collection bundle are available for purchase. No expiry date has been stated for the free engine offer.
