Anemond, the software developer, has released Factoid 2, a revamped version of its music plugin and standalone application. The new version offers an upgrade to users of the original Factoid or Factormini at a significant discount of 65%.
Factoid is a lightweight music plugin and standalone application that enables users to remix and randomize any audio clip. It employs the same machine learning decomposition engine as Factorsynth, which decomposes any sound into a set of layers. These layers can then be manually remixed, muted, or randomly shifted in time to alter the temporal structure. This feature allows users to create new drum patterns on the fly, transform melodies into textures, remix and randomize full mixes, and experiment with any kind of sound.
Factoid version 2 is a comprehensive re-implementation of the original Max For Live device as a VST/AU plugin and standalone application. This version introduces new features such as individual component control and sound export. Factoid can extract between 2 and 8 components that overlap in time in the original sample. For instance, in a drum loop, it can often separate snare from kick even if they play simultaneously in the original clip. Once extracted, the different layers can be remixed and displaced in time, with or without quantization.
Factoid differs from Factorsynth as it selects some of the features of its bigger sibling and focuses on easily generating variations of loops with a much simpler interface and less CPU and memory consumption. While there is no demo version of Factoid, users can get an idea of the kind of components it can obtain by trying the demo version of Factorsynth.
Factoid 2 is priced at 29€. However, users of Factoid 1 and Factormini can upgrade for 10€. Students can also benefit from a 50% off discount.
The system requirements for Factoid are Mac OS (Intel/M1/M2) or Windows (64 bit) for plugin and standalone versions, and 64 bit DAW compatible with VST3 or AUv2 for plugin versions. The current version is v2.0.2, released on February 27, 2024.
