Atomic has updated their free amp modelling software Tonocracy to v2.0.

News: Atomic has updated their free amp modelling software Tonocracy to v2.0.

Atomic has announced a significant update to their amp modelling software, Tonocracy, to version 2.0. In a move that is sure to delight users, the company is now offering the Full Version of Tonocracy completely free of charge.

This includes all of their SchemAccurate amp models, including the latest additions, EVan 53 Red and EVan 53 Blue, which are based respectively on the EVH 5150III Red and Blue Channels.

The shift to a free software model is part of Atomic’s strategy to showcase their innovative technology, engage users in their ecosystem, and gather valuable feedback. Initially, the company had concerns that offering the software for free might devalue it, resulting in a two-tiered system with both Free and Full versions. However, the limitations of the free version proved to be a deterrent for many users, despite positive reviews about the software’s capabilities.

From the Developer

Hello Tonocracy friends,

Exciting news! Atomic is unlocking the Full Version of Tonocracy for all users! This includes all of our SchemAccurate amp models, including these new additions:

  • EVan 53 Red based on the EVH 5150III Red Channel
  • EVan 53 Blue based on the EVH 5150III Blue Channel

This is effective immediately and is part of the latest release of Tonocracy (v2.0.0).

WHY THE SHIFT TO FREE?

Originally, the Tonocracy concept was to create a hardware-based platform that had a 1:1 desktop software companion on day 1. Along the way, we realized that we had to develop nearly all of the elements of the desktop version on the path to the hardware. That being the case, we decided to release the desktop version first. This would give us the opportunity to showcase our groundbreaking new technology, get users in the ecosystem, receive valuable feedback, and ultimately create awareness for future hardware.

Our first thought was to make the software free, but we were concerned that doing so would diminish its value, so we settled on having a Free and Full version. The limitations of the free version, however, turned out to be clunky, complex, and actually a turnoff for many, despite the rave reviews about the many things we got right. Definitely NOT our intent.

In hindsight, we feel our gut instinct was correct. The core ethos behind Tonocracy and the mantra “Tone for and by the People” is best served by offering a substantial component that is completely free and simple to use. And here we are.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR TONOCRACY?

Atomic is hard at work and energized to continue the development of the Tonocracy platform. We are also well underway in developing Atomic’s next-generation hardware! We’re super excited about it. We’ll leave the details on that, including the timeline, for another day.
We hope you enjoy having unrestricted access to all Tonocracy has to offer!

Best,
The Tonocracy Team
