Auddict has launched Virtuoso Cello, a new solo cello library for the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt. The instrument is built on the company’s AI-P performance engine and features detailed sampling by cellist Caroline Mirkes.
Virtuoso Cello is powered by Auddict’s AI-P pipeline, which is designed to refine legato transitions and improve note connectivity. According to the developer, the system focuses on resolving transitions between notes in a way that allows the instrument to respond more like a performed part. The library also includes real-time performance correction intended to support fluid melodic passages.
The instrument was performed by Luxembourgish cellist Caroline Mirkes, who is based in Vienna. She holds a Master of Arts in Cello Performance from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts from the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel.
Virtuoso Cello includes 13 articulations, up to four dynamic layers depending on articulation, and three microphone positions. Short articulations feature up to seven round robins. The library runs in Kontakt 5 and above and requires the full version of Kontakt. It is not compatible with the free Kontakt Player.
The legato articulations include:
- Slurred vibrato with four dynamic layers
- Bowed vibrato with four dynamic layers
- No vibrato with three dynamic layers
Longs and sustains are provided as:
- Vibrato with four dynamic layers
- No vibrato with three dynamic layers
- Wide vibrato with two dynamic layers
- Sul ponticello with two dynamic layers
- Sul tasto with two dynamic layers
- Harmonics with one dynamic layer
Short articulations include staccato, spiccato, pizzicato, and col legno, each with seven round robins.
Auddict states that the AI-refined legato and performance correction are intended to enhance expressive control, particularly in melodic and exposed solo passages. The combination of multiple dynamic layers and microphone positions is designed to offer flexibility in shaping tone and placement within a mix.
Virtuoso Cello is available at an introductory price of $79, reduced from the regular price of $200. A bundle including all three solo string libraries is also available for $197, representing a 66% discount during the promotion. The expiration date of the promotion has not been specified.
