Audio Brewers has launched ab Compressor | Limiter, a dynamics processor for macOS and Windows designed to work with mono, stereo, and Ambisonics signals. The plugin processes internally in Ambisonics, allowing compression, limiting, and saturation to be applied across a three-dimensional soundfield.
ab Compressor | Limiter is designed to support speaker configurations ranging from headphones and stereo playback to surround and Dolby Atmos-compatible workflows. Audio Brewers states that the plugin can be used with Ambisonics material from first-order through seventh-order formats.
The processor provides separate control for the Front, Back, Left, Right, Top, and Bottom dimensional poles. Each pole includes its own Compressor, Brickwall Limiter, Saturation, and Parallel Mix controls, enabling dynamics and tonal processing to be adjusted at individual positions within an Ambisonics soundfield.
Its visualisation section offers real-time views of pre-processing and post-processing signals, gain reduction, and spherical harmonic distribution. The plugin also includes mono, stereo, and Ambisonics sidechain options for spatially selective compression.
Audio Brewers notes that users can work with stereo sources while using the plugin’s three-dimensional processing approach. Mono or stereo material can also be expanded to Ambisonics before being routed to surround, Atmos, or other immersive output formats.
ab Compressor | Limiter is available in AAX, AU, VST3, and AUv3 formats, with the AUv3 edition identified as ab Compressor | Limiter X. It supports Apple Silicon and Intel-based Macs, Windows 10 and later, and major DAWs.
Audio Brewers has also released ab Compressor | Limiter X for iOS through the App Store. The iOS version is designed for stereo signals and provides independent processing controls for the Left, Right, and Front dimensional poles. It includes compressor, brickwall limiter, and saturation stages, with processing applied per pole.
ab Compressor | Limiter is available at an introductory price of €49, reduced from €59, until 15 October 2026.
