AudioThing has recently released an update for Outer Space, a space echo plugin emulation compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux. The latest version, v2.0, now extends support to iOS devices. Outer Space is a plugin that emulates a well-known vintage tape echo from the early 1970s.
Like its original model, Outer Space includes a tape echo section with three playback heads and two spring reverb tanks. The developers have meticulously modelled three distinct tape frequency responses and saturations, capturing all the analog imperfections of tape recording and playback. Furthermore, the ballistic response of the delay rate, also known as the repeat rate, has been modelled. This feature can create unique pitch shifts due to the Doppler effect, a characteristic sound effect associated with classic tape echo.
The updated Outer Space 2 is now available for Mac, PC, and Linux in various formats including VST, VST3, AU, AAX, and CLAP, but only in 64-bit. Additionally, it is also available as AUv3 and Standalone on the App Store. The link to the App Store is here.
For a limited time, the introduction of Outer Space 2 comes with a 43% discount, valid until January 6th. Moreover, owners of the previous version can access this update free of charge.
