AudioThing has launched Things – Fold, a dynamic wavefolder plugin. This innovative tool, inspired by the iconic Serge Wave Multipliers, is designed for both subtle and extreme dynamic saturation, offering a plethora of creative sound design possibilities.
Things – Fold is a product of a collaboration between AudioThing and Luca Minelli, along with his community, Synth Cafè. Synth Cafè is an Italian group, established in 2011, that is devoted to the world of synthesizers.
The plugin is a dynamic wavefolder, a technique of waveshaping where the signal is folded back onto itself. Instead of clipping the signal, wavefolding inverts the waveform, creating a series of peaks and valleys. This process can be highly effective for adding complex harmonics to basic waveforms. Depending on the settings, wavefolding can also be used for mild saturation to subtly color a signal or pushed to extremes for intense, aggressive distortion.
Things – Fold combines wavefolding with an envelope follower, low-pass and high-pass filters, and adjustable feedback. This combination allows for a wide range of creative sound design possibilities, from gentle harmonics to crunchy distorted sounds.
The plugin is available for MAC, PC, and LINUX (VST, VST3, AU, AAX, CLAP, 64-bit only), and also as AUv3 and Standalone on the App Store. It is also available for iPhone and iPad on the App Store, as a AUv3 plugin and Standalone (IAA).
The plugin features a dynamic wavefolder, envelope follower, high pass + low pass filter, feedback, preset system with randomizer, resizable window, brightness, and contrast controls. It requires macOS 10.13 or newer, Windows 7 or newer, or Ubuntu 20.04 or newer. The system requirements are 2GHz CPU, 4 GB RAM, and VST2, VST3, AAX, CLAP (64-bit).
The plugin is protected by online and offline authorization. 1 license can be used on up to 3 computers. No iLok or internet connection is required to activate.
