Codwaves has launched BassXtend, a psychoacoustic bass enhancement plugin designed to help low-frequency material remain perceptible on smaller playback systems. The plugin generates controlled harmonic content above the original bass fundamental rather than increasing the level of sub-bass frequencies.
BassXtend is intended for situations where a speaker system cannot reproduce the original low-frequency fundamental. By adding harmonic information in a higher frequency range, the plugin is designed to support the audibility of bass elements on playback devices with limited low-end extension.
The processing can be used with 808s, kick drums, bass guitar, synth bass and full mixes. BassXtend supports both mono and stereo processing, and Codwaves states that it operates with zero latency.
The plugin provides four primary controls:
- Root, covering a frequency range from 32 Hz to 256 Hz for setting the source fundamental area.
- Intensity, which adjusts the amount of generated harmonic contribution.
- Gain, providing output level trimming.
- Low Band In/Out, for auditioning the added content.
BassXtend is available for DAWs supporting VST3, AU and AAX plugin formats. Codwaves released the plugin on August 19, 2026, and provides a seven-day free trial.
BassXtend is available at an introductory price of $9.99, €9.99 or £9.99 for two months. The regular price is $14.99, €14.99 or £14.99.
