News: Cryptid Audio releases Aura, a channel strip plugin for Windows.

Cryptid Audio has launched Aura, a channel strip plugin for Windows. Aura is available as a VST3 plugin and standalone application, with version 1.0.1 marking its initial release.

Aura is designed as a front-of-mix processing channel strip centred on a spectral analyser called the Aura display. According to Cryptid Audio, the display uses an amber glow to show areas of a signal that are alive and sustained, while noise and transient material remain dimmer.

The plugin combines this analyser with a set of channel-processing tools for shaping dynamics, tone, and harmonic content. Its parametric EQ, analyser curve, and meters are drawn from the same code used for audio processing, which the developer states is intended to keep the display aligned with the processed signal.

Aura includes the following processing sections:

  • Parametric equalisation
  • Opto and FET compression options
  • Mid/Side processing and a sidechain high-pass filter
  • Dynamic resonance taming
  • Bloom processing and analogue-style saturation

The release follows Cryptid Audio’s earlier plugins, Nessie and Mothman. Aura is the developer’s third release and is focused on channel-strip processing for Windows-based music production and audio work.

Aura is available for an introductory price of $49, with a regular price of $89. A full-featured 14-day trial is available without an account or iLok.
