Cryptid Audio has launched Mothman, a Windows plugin that combines space echo-style delay and reverb processing. The plugin is designed to create layered repeats and reverb tails while managing the presence of noise and sustained material within the effect.
Mothman uses tape-style echo repeats with controls for wow, flutter, and age. The delay can operate in tempo-synchronised or free-running modes, allowing repeat timing to follow a host project or be set independently.
The delay section feeds a reverb stage intended to retain clarity as effects build. According to Cryptid Audio, sustained musical repeats can remain present while noisier material fades at equivalent feedback settings. The reverb tail is also designed to swell on held notes while reducing the level of the noise wash.
Additional processing features include a faint tail mode that carries traces of recent notes through pauses in a performance. Mothman also includes an octave-down effect intended to add weight when a low note is held, while remaining subdued on chords and transient material.
Its modulation controls range from subtle shimmer effects to more pronounced pitch movement. Tape saturation is applied across successive delay passes, with the saturation increasing as repeats continue through the feedback path.
- Tape-style delay with wow, flutter, age, and feedback controls
- Tempo-synchronised and free-running delay timing
- Integrated reverb, modulation, octave-down processing, and tape saturation
- Windows 10 and Windows 11 compatibility in 64-bit VST3 and standalone formats
Cryptid Audio is a one-person plugin developer based in Metro Detroit. The developer also offers Aura, a channel strip designed for front-of-mix processing, and Nessie, a lo-fi analogue-style processor.
