DEVPROAUDIO has launched REVERSIDE 1.0.0, a dual-engine algorithmic reverb plugin for macOS and Windows. The plugin is available in VST3, CLAP, and AudioUnit v2 formats and is designed to provide detailed spatial control through separate early and late reflection engines.
REVERSIDE is built around two independent reverb engines, allowing users to adjust early reflections and the reverb tail separately. This structure enables detailed control over perceived space, depth, stereo width, tone, and decay. According to the developer, the plugin can be configured for natural room and hall simulations as well as longer, smoother tails and more stylized or experimental spatial effects.
A central aspect of REVERSIDE is its 3D spatial positioning system. Users can define the position of both the source and the listener within a virtual acoustic environment. The geometry of this space influences the directional character of early reflections and the late reverb tail. As a result, depth, width, and direction are derived from the simulated room structure rather than stereo placement alone. An interactive 3D Position Display provides visual feedback for this setup.
The early and late engines each include their own processing sections, offering:
- Independent 3-band filters and 3-band EQ
- Stereo tools and modulation controls
- Dedicated mini diffusers for adjusting density and texture
Users can define different reverb times, extended envelope settings, and decay filter gains for the left and right channels independently, or operate in Mid/Side mode. This allows for detailed spatial shaping and asymmetrical decay behavior when required.
REVERSIDE also incorporates a pitch-preserving modulation system with more than 100 internal LFOs. The modulation is designed to animate various parts of the algorithm while maintaining harmonic detail in the reverb tail.
Timing controls extend beyond standard pre-delay. The early and late engines feature independent pre-delay settings with both free and tempo-synced modes. The late engine can also be timed relative to the early engine, enabling rhythmic and tempo-locked spatial effects. Dedicated density modes allow the response to move toward resonant or echo-like behavior, supporting delay-style effects within the same processing structure.
The feature set includes:
- Dual fully algorithmic reverb engines with separate Early and Late reflections
- 3D positioning of source and listener within a simulated acoustic space
- 14 diffusion models and dedicated mini diffusers per engine
- ER-to-LR send control with selectable pickup point
- Stereo shaping, filters, EQ, modulation, and flexible pre-delay
- Automatic modes for reflection count and reverb time derived from room geometry
- Extended tail envelope mode for non-exponential decay profiles
- Absolute and relative room-size control modes
- Independent 3D processing controls for direct sound, early reflections, and late reflections with selectable quality modes
- Over 100 internal LFOs for algorithm animation
REVERSIDE provides two mixing workflows for ER/LR and Dry/Wet balance: a balance-style approach and absolute gain control in dB, with automatic conversion between views. A unique density control simulates scattering through irregular, split bounces, and material-based filter follow modes can link tonal behavior between early and late engines.
The interface is organized using a layered editing system. The Easy and Main pages provide central access to primary controls, while additional pages offer detailed editing for Reflections, Position, Reverb, Filters, EQ, Stereo, Diffusers, and Modulation. Users who prefer a streamlined workflow can remain on the Easy page and work from the included preset library, which contains hundreds of presets, including contributions from RumbaCodex and Nirto (NSONICS). Additional third-party libraries are planned.
The user interface is GPU-rendered to allocate more CPU resources to audio processing. It also includes localizable language support and adjustable color themes with included presets.
REVERSIDE 1.0.0 is available now for macOS and Windows at a regular price of 135 USD / 120 EUR. Fully functioning demo versions are available from devproaudio.com. REVERSIDE is free for SpinAudio users and for 2CAudio customers who purchased before November 1, 2021. Later 2CAudio customers can purchase at a discounted price with proof of purchase.
