Driftlab Audio Releases Vintage Spring, A Vintage American Amp, Spring Reverb & Tremolo VST3 Plugin

News: Driftlab Audio Releases Vintage Spring, A Vintage American Amp, Spring Reverb & Tremolo VST3 Plugin

Driftlab Audio has launched Vintage Spring, a VST3 amp simulator for Windows. The plugin is built around the spring reverb and tremolo circuit of a vintage American tube combo, focusing on recreating the structure and behaviour of the original hardware design.

Vintage Spring is organised around six primary controls: Volume, Treble, Bass, Reverb, Speed, and Intensity. The interface avoids layered menus, with each parameter accessible from the main panel. According to Driftlab Audio, the design emphasises touch response, with control positions intended to reflect the incremental tonal and dynamic changes associated with traditional tube amplifiers.

The internal signal path models individual stages of a guitar amplifier rather than applying broad tonal approximations. The chain includes an input stage, sweepable Treble and Bass tone shelves, and a power amp section with frequency-dependent saturation. This approach is intended to represent how different sections of an amplifier contribute to overall tone and response.

The spring reverb section incorporates filtered send behaviour to reproduce the natural low-frequency roll-off typical of physical spring tanks. This filtering is designed to retain the characteristic attack and “drip” associated with spring reverb while limiting excess low-end buildup. The tremolo operates across a range of 0.1 to 8 Hz and is centered on unity gain, meaning that engaging the effect does not alter the average signal level.

Vintage Spring also includes cabinet simulation and routing options:

  • Four cabinet modes: Bypass, Balanced Chime, Warm Vintage, and Bright Clarity, with smooth crossfading between modes, including during playback
  • Direct Out mode, which bypasses the spring reverb and introduces a higher-headroom limiter to support stacking with external overdrive or distortion processors later in the signal chain

Preset management is integrated into the plugin, with 50 factory presets organised into five style categories:

  • Clean & Classic
  • Surf & Tremolo
  • Country & Twang
  • Blues & Jazz
  • Rockabilly & Vintage

Users can also save, load, and delete custom presets.

Vintage Spring supports up to 8x oversampling, automatically adapting to the session sample rate. The plugin uses 2x oversampling during tracking, 4x during mixing, and 8x during final export. This automatic scaling is designed to balance processing load and fidelity depending on production stage.

Driftlab Audio positions Vintage Spring for applications including surf guitar textures, classic tremolo-based tones, country-style clean articulation, blues and jazz reverb sounds, and direct recording scenarios where vintage amp character is required without a miked cabinet. The Direct Out mode also enables use as part of extended effects chains.

The plugin is available as a VST3 instrument for Windows systems. A free 10-day trial version is offered for evaluation.

Vintage Spring is available now for Windows in VST3 format at a price of $60. Driftlab Audio is offering an introductory 50% discount with the code DRIFTLAB. A free 10-day trial is also available.
