News: Dystopian Waves has released NEUON, a sound morphing plugin that combines the spectral character and texture of two sounds.

Dystopian Waves has launched NEUON, a sound morphing plugin designed to combine the spectral character and texture of two audio sources. The plugin accepts a main input and a second signal through its sidechain, allowing users to create hybrid sounds by morphing elements of each source.

NEUON provides two processing engines. The Cepstral Morpher is intended for spectral morphing, with separate controls for formant and texture processing. Its Macro Morph control combines these functions into a single parameter, while additional controls include Formant Shift, Lifter, Envelope Follow, selectable FFT sizes, and an adjustable frequency range.

The Formant Morph control changes the formant-related spectral character between the two sources, while Texture Morph addresses the excitation and textural components. This approach can be used with combinations such as vocals and synthesisers, piano and voice, drums and textural material, or guitar and other sound sources.

The second engine, Filterbank Vocoder, offers vocoder-style processing for applications including voice and synthesiser combinations, robotic vocal treatments, and rhythmically driven effects.

Frequency range controls allow the morphing process to be restricted to selected areas of the spectrum. For example, users can retain the low-frequency content of the main source while processing its midrange and high frequencies, or preserve high-frequency detail while morphing other areas. An interactive spectral visualiser displays the incoming signals and resulting morphed spectrum in real time, with direct adjustment of the morph range.

NEUON also includes four independent tempo-synchronised LFOs with custom drawable curves. Each LFO can be assigned to available parameters, with individual speed and depth settings for creating evolving, repeating, or rhythmically timed modulation.

  • Two processing engines: Cepstral Morph and Filterbank Vocoder.
  • Independent formant and texture morphing, plus a Macro Morph mode.
  • Selectable FFT sizes, Formant Shift, Lifter, and Envelope Follow controls.
  • Adjustable morph frequency range and real-time spectral visualisation.
  • Four custom curve LFOs with tempo synchronisation and flexible routing.
  • A preset system with 20 factory presets.

NEUON is designed for cross-synthesis and spectral processing workflows where two sources are combined into a new sound. The Cepstral Morpher supports both narrower frequency-band processing and full-spectrum morphing, while the vocoder engine provides a separate method for blending source material.

NEUON is available from the Dystopian Waves Gumroad store for $34.98. A 60% introductory discount is automatically applied for a limited time, reducing the price to $13.99.
