fedDSP has launched FIERY, a new compressor plugin for macOS and Windows. The original design combines compression and saturation features in a single processor intended for use across a wide range of sound sources.
FIERY is described as being inspired by classic hardware compressors, while not modelling any specific unit. Instead, fedDSP presents it as an original compressor and saturator developed to deliver character and movement in a flexible software format.
The core of FIERY is a character-focused compressor with a fixed threshold and adjustable attack and release controls. In addition to its primary compression stage, the plugin includes a smooth upward compression circuit designed to shape signals below the threshold. A dedicated DEPTH control is provided for low-frequency enhancement.
Further tonal shaping is available through bespoke variable saturation and selectable transformer emulations. Additional controls include DC threshold adjustment and a parallel mix function. Users can operate the plugin in stereo or dual mono modes, depending on session requirements.
FIERY features two operational modes, each reconfiguring the internal behaviour of the processor:
- CLASSIC, offering a faster response with a modern analogue-style character.
- VINTAGE, providing a warmer tonal balance with rounder transients and a softer overall response.
According to fedDSP, each mode effectively revoices the unit while retaining the same control layout, allowing users to access two distinct compressor behaviours within a single interface.
The plugin is designed for use on a broad range of sources, including drums, bass, acoustic instruments, pianos, guitars, loops, and vocals. It is available in VST3, Audio Unit, and AAX formats for macOS, and VST3 and AAX formats for Windows. Compatible digital audio workstations include Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Cubase, Studio One, FL Studio, and Reaper, among others that support these formats.
FIERY runs natively on Apple Silicon processors, including M1, M2, and M3 chips, as well as on Intel-based Macs. Rosetta is not required, though compatibility is supported. macOS compatibility begins at version 10.13. On Windows, the plugin supports Windows 10 and Windows 11 (64-bit).
System requirements include 2GB of RAM and 30MB of free disk space. Each license allows up to three simultaneous activations per user. Updates to the plugin are provided free of charge.
A trial version is available, offering full functionality with the addition of short, infrequent silences to allow users to evaluate the plugin before purchase.
