Fractal Audio has launched Cab-Lab 4, a free cabinet impulse response loader plugin for Windows and Mac. This innovative software is designed to enhance the sound quality of guitarists’ recordings and live performances by allowing them to customize and mix Impulse Responses (IRs).
Impulse Responses are sonic “captures” or the “frequency fingerprint” of a tone over time. Fractal Audio pioneered the use of installable IRs in a guitar product to mimic the sound of a mic’d speaker cabinet, setting a new industry standard. With Cab-Lab 4, guitarists can now encapsulate the essence of a speaker cab in a portable format, thereby improving both studio recording and live performance.
The latest version of Cab-Lab includes DynaCab™, a feature that simplifies the process of achieving great tone. It allows users to customize and mix IRs themselves, making it quicker, easier, and more intuitive. For years, guitarists and audio professionals have meticulously selected, positioned, and mixed microphones on guitar speakers to achieve the perfect tone. Cab-Lab 4 simplifies this process with a 4-channel IR mixer and tools to EQ, align, and more. Users can select, position, and mix mics while listening in real-time.
The new DynaCab technology further simplifies tone sculpting by eliminating the need to sift through countless individual IRs. The DynaCab system in Cab-Lab 4 offers even more resolution and flexibility than Fractal Audio’s hardware products. It provides 360° of placement at variable distances, the possibility of additional microphone choices, and more. Furthermore, Cab-Lab 4 is now available for free.
Cab-Lab 4 supports the latest DynaCab Packs, as well as traditional single IRs — whether from Fractal Audio legacy cab packs or 3rd party producers. It provides users with the tools they need to create their own signature tones, delivering the high-quality results expected from Fractal Audio Systems.
Cab-Lab 4 is available in both Standalone and Plugin Versions. The Standalone version uses your Axe-Fx III, FM9, FM3, or another audio interface so you can monitor in real-time. On the other hand, the plugin version processes audio in your compatible DAW or host and can be used both to “re-cab” raw amp recordings and export IRs for your Fractal Audio hardware product.
