FRCTL Audio has launched GRNi, a granular sampler available as a plugin and standalone instrument for macOS, Windows, and Linux. It is designed to turn imported audio files into playable granular instruments, with MIDI performance and per-note grain generation.
GRNi allows users to drag an audio file onto its waveform display, define a selection, and play the resulting material across a MIDI keyboard or controller. According to FRCTL Audio, each played note creates its own grain stream, allowing multiple notes to be processed independently when playing chords.
The instrument includes two blendable sample layers, enabling users to combine separate audio sources within a patch. Its controls include scale-locked jitter, per-note chaos control, modulation options, and a 10-slot effects rack.
GRNi supports MPE, with each touch or finger able to control an individual grain stream. The instrument is intended for uses including ambient and cinematic music production, beatmaking, sound design, and MPE-based performance.
The release includes 52 factory presets arranged across seven categories, alongside a buffer library. Users can import audio in WAV, AIFF, FLAC, OGG, and MP3 formats.
- Plugin formats: VST3, AU, and CLAP
- Operating systems: Windows 10/11, macOS for Intel and Apple Silicon systems, and Linux
- Sample import length: up to 60 seconds per layer at 48 kHz, 65 seconds at 44.1 kHz, or 30 seconds at 96 kHz
FRCTL Audio states that GRNi is compatible with DAWs including Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, REAPER, and Bitwig Studio. A 14-day free trial is available, and the developer says purchases include lifetime free updates, a licence for up to three computers, and direct developer support.
GRNi is available at an introductory price of $34.99 for the first two weeks, reduced from its regular price of $44.99. The introductory offer is listed as expiring on September 19.
