News: Funputs has launched Comet, Orbit and Cluster, a collection of visual MIDI plugins for generating, transforming and performing notes, scales and chords.

Funputs has launched Comet, Orbit and Cluster, a collection of visual MIDI effect plugins for macOS. Developed by Funputs, the three plugins are designed for generating, transforming and performing notes, scales and chords through graphical interfaces.

The collection uses spatial layouts, colour, movement and shape as alternatives to conventional parameter controls such as knobs, sliders and menus. Each plugin can be operated with a mouse, while phones and tablets can also be paired for wireless multi-touch control.

Comet is an XY-pad MIDI and MPE controller that allows notes to be played directly from its interface. Horizontal movement can be used for pitch bending, while vertical movement can shape notes through pressure, timbre or MIDI CC data. When used with MPE, individual notes can be moved independently.

Orbit is designed to map the white keys of a MIDI keyboard to different scales and tuning systems while retaining familiar keyboard fingering. It includes 46 scales and tuning systems, supports microtonal pitches, and can import Scala tuning files. Other features include favourite scale slots and a playable harp-style interface.

Cluster is a visual chord instrument focused on voice leading. Its chord map places harmonically related chords in spatial positions, allowing users to move between them and create voice-led transitions. Spread, Ripple and Glide controls adjust voicing, timing and movement between chords, while MPE support allows individual voices to glide independently.

Comet, Orbit and Cluster are available as AU and VST3 MIDI effects for macOS 11 Big Sur or later, with universal support for Apple Silicon and Intel-based Macs. Funputs lists Logic Pro and Ableton Live among the DAWs tested with the plugins. An MPE-compatible software instrument is recommended, and Windows support is planned for a future release.

The Funputs bundle is available for $39 during the launch sale, with a regular bundle price of $59. Individual prices are $19 for Comet, $29 for Orbit and $29 for Cluster.
