Gazillion Industries has released TRIPLE OG, a cassette tape simulation plug-in.

News: Gazillion Industries has released TRIPLE OG, a cassette tape simulation plug-in.

Gazillion Industries has launched TRIPLE OG, a cassette tape simulation plug-in for macOS and Windows. The plug-in models aspects of cassette playback and tape transport behaviour, including tonal changes, noise, saturation, speed variation, and manually controlled transport effects.

TRIPLE OG provides controls divided between tape characteristics and transport behaviour. Its TONE control adjusts the brightness of the playback system, with the developer describing a setting of 50 as a musically neutral cassette response rather than a bypass setting.

HISS introduces a continuous broadband noise bed that is shaped and partly decorrelated between the left and right channels. AGE ranges from 0 to 60 years, combining changes to darkness, noise, saturation, speed stability, and channel matching into one control.

The DRIVE control applies oversampled, soft asymmetric saturation. According to Gazillion Industries, even harmonics are emphasised throughout the control range, while output level remains within approximately half a decibel from one end of the control to the other. MIX defaults to 100%.

For transport-related behaviour, WOW FLUT creates continuous and bounded speed instability using multiple simultaneous motions. CATCH introduces intermittent transport events in which the tape can drag, jam, and recover automatically. A dedicated panel trigger is also available for activating a CATCH event manually.

TRIPLE OG also includes hands-on transport controls:

  • SCRUB moves the tape head backwards across the tape while the lever is held to the left, then returns it to its normal position when released.
  • SLAM slows the transport to a stop while held, before bringing it back to speed when released.
  • SLAM RETURN sets the duration of the tape-stop response.

The plug-in interface displays reels, tape, and two tape heads, alongside a pair of VU meters referenced to 0 VU. Gazillion Industries states that TRIPLE OG has approximately 4 ms of latency, which is reported to the host.

TRIPLE OG is available as an AU, VST3, and standalone application on macOS 10.13 or later, with universal support for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. On Windows 10 or later, 64-bit, it is available in VST3 format. The plug-in supports any sample rate and does not require an internet connection after activation.

TRIPLE OG is priced at $29.
