News: Goodhertz has released Loudness, a free loudness meter.

Goodhertz has launched a new product, Loudness, a free loudness meter plugin for Windows and Mac. The plugin is designed to enhance volume control, offering a clean, smooth volume ramping experience without the common issues of clicks, pops, or added distortion.

Loudness is a significant upgrade from the standard digital audio workstation (DAW) volume control or trim. While it may seem counterintuitive that a digital volume control could offer a different sound, Loudness proves this notion wrong. Traditional stock trim plugins often produce tiny digital clicks, similar to a scratchy potentiometer but in a digital format. In contrast, Loudness offers a completely clean sound.

During tests, nearly every DAW caused clicks and pops when automating Mute, Solo, Polarity, or Mono Summing switches. However, these tasks are performed clicklessly in Loudness. With fully 64-bit processing throughout, Loudness ensures no clicks, pops, or added distortion, providing clean, smooth volume ramping.

Loudness also offers superior metering, featuring LUFS, RMS, Peak, and True Peak meters. It also provides three different time windows (Momentary, Short, & Long Term), allowing users to have a clear understanding of their track’s performance. The fader rides are quicker and easier because users can easily see where adjustments might be needed.

The Summary page provides a comprehensive numeric summary of all metering types simultaneously. This information can easily be copied to the clipboard to share with collaborators or added to a track log.

Loudness comes with advanced options that help users work faster. Customizable fader glide times reduce the need for manual smoothing of automation points. Up and down glide times can be set separately, which can be particularly useful for manually automating drum hits.

Loudness also simplifies the process of hitting a target reference level. Users can set a target loudness level, hit “Apply,” and the fader snaps to the correct position. The advanced page also offers an “Apply Balance” option, which automatically adjusts the fine trims to perfectly balance the stereo field.

Finally, Loudness offers extensive stereo controls and metering. Mono Sum, Solo, Mute, Polarity, Fine Trim are all available in the advanced pane. This free plugin is part of the Goodhertz Free Series, meaning it will always be available at no cost.
