Haven Audio has launched CODA, a new mix enhancer plugin available for both Mac and Windows users. This innovative tool is designed to enhance audio mixes by adding a powerful punch without the need for traditional compressors or limiters, which often compress the dynamics of the sound.
CODA is available for free download and utilizes a unique “phase-smashing” technology. This technology increases phase information at specific frequencies, offering exceptional transient enhancements for elements like kicks, 808s, and drums. The phase-smashing technique involves smearing the phase information of a sound across a particular frequency, resulting in significant enhancements to transients without adding extra gain. This approach helps preserve the original quality and headroom of the audio.
The plugin operates by rotating the phase of a signal at a selected frequency. The “amount” control allows users to determine the number of rotations. When the signal is rotated sufficiently, it produces an audio artifact that alters the character of the transients in the sound. This artifact is the primary effect that CODA is designed to emphasize.
CODA can serve multiple purposes in audio production. It can act as a cohesive element between kick, bass, or 808 relationships, enhance guitar tracks, or be applied to a drum bus to add a distinct snap and body to the mix. The plugin ensures that any kick or 808 will have a pronounced impact without compromising the quality of the original audio.
