Hearth & Hollow Audio has launched Microharpa, a sample library centred on the short string sections found beyond the conventional playing area of acoustic instruments. The library includes 10 sampled stringed instruments and provides solo, ensemble and arpeggiation-based performance modes.
Microharpa focuses on string after-lengths, the sections located between tuning pegs and nuts, or between bridges and tailpieces. Hearth & Hollow Audio presents these areas as small, harp-like sound sources, captured here across a collection of acoustic instruments.
Users can select individual instruments in Solo mode, with controls for MIDI-velocity response, sample start offset, randomised sample start timing and an ADSR envelope. A Flam Threshold parameter sets the MIDI velocity at which a flammed accent is triggered.
Ensemble mode is designed for creating layered combinations from the 10 included instruments. Each instrument in an ensemble can be adjusted independently for level, panning and the balance between finger and pick performance.
The library includes two recorded signal options:
Both signals include separate stereo-width and pan controls.
For performance, Microharpa offers single-note playback alongside five tempo-synchronised arpeggiation modes. The playback speed of each arpeggiation mode can be adjusted in sync with the host DAW.
- Upward arpeggiation
- Downward arpeggiation
- Up-and-down arpeggiation
- Rotating or alternating arpeggiation
- Random arpeggiation
Microharpa also includes three effects controls. Smudge is a macro parameter that combines transient compression with reduced frequency bandwidth. Slap provides a tape-style slap delay with variable speed, while Shine is a plate-style reverb created for the library’s instrument recordings.
Microharpa is available for $70, with a limited-time introductory price of $50. Hearth & Hollow Audio has not specified an expiry date for the introductory offer.
