Hollance Unveils Krunch, a Free Filter and Saturation Plugin.

News: Hollance Unveils Krunch, a Free Filter and Saturation Plugin.

Hollance has launched Krunch, a unique filter and saturation plugin available for free for both Mac and Windows users. The plugin, which is a blend of a low-pass filter and saturation, is based on the 1€ Filter, an adaptive filter known for its ability to balance jitter and lag in noisy input for interactive systems.

Krunch, when applied to audio, dynamically adds harmonics in a unique manner. The plugin comes with several controls including KRUNCH, MIX, OUT, OVS, and BYP. The KRUNCH control adjusts the degree of filtering and saturation. MIX facilitates the blending of the processed and dry signal, while OUT compensates for any drop in loudness due to the filtering process. OVS enables oversampling to reduce aliases, and BYP allows users to bypass the plugin for A/B testing.

Users can download the plugin from the Releases page and install it on both Mac and Windows systems. For Mac users, Krunch.component needs to be copied to the folder /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components and Krunch.vst3 to the folder /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3. Windows users need to copy Krunch.vst3 to the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3. Once installed, the plugin can be accessed in your DAW under audiodev.blog > Krunch and can be inserted on a stereo track.

Krunch is developed using JUCE 7.0.12 and utilizes CMake. It is licensed under the GPL-3.0 license. The filter used in this plugin is inspired by the paper 1€ Filter: A Simple Speed-based Low-pass Filter for Noisy Input in Interactive Systems by Géry Casiez, Nicolas Roussel, and Daniel Vogel (2012).

Despite its advanced features and capabilities, Krunch is available for free. Users can download and install the plugin without any cost, making it a valuable addition to any audio professional’s toolkit.
