Icechewing Technology releases ice clip, a soft clipper plugin.

News: Icechewing Technology releases ice clip, a soft clipper plugin.

Icechewing Technology has launched ice clip, a soft clipper plugin for Windows and macOS. The plugin is designed to recreate the measured behaviour of Fruity Soft Clipper, Image-Line’s stock clipping processor for FL Studio, in VST3 and AU formats.

Icechewing Technology is an independent developer based in Japan. According to the developer, ice clip was created for users who want access to this particular soft-clipping behaviour outside of FL Studio.

The developer reports that null tests between ice clip and Fruity Soft Clipper produce a residual of approximately -80 dB across the full threshold range. These measurements are stated to require no input-gain matching or compensating adjustments.

ice clip’s Threshold control is designed with a taper matched to the measured response of the reference processor. The interface provides three parameters:

  • Input, adjustable from -15 dB to +15 dB
  • Threshold, adjustable from 0 dB to -51.8 dB
  • Output, adjustable from -15 dB to +15 dB

The plugin is designed for low CPU usage and supports multiple simultaneous instances. It is available in the following formats and operating system configurations:

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit: VST3
  • macOS 10.13 or later: VST3 and AU, supplied as a Universal Binary with native Apple Silicon and Intel support; the plugin is signed and notarized

ice clip is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Image-Line NV. “Fruity Soft Clipper” and “FL Studio” are trademarks of Image-Line NV and are referenced by Icechewing Technology to identify the processor used as a measurement reference.

ice clip is available for $34.99 as a one-time purchase, including free updates.
