Inear Display has launched a new product, Bref, a free or pay-what-you-want random percussion synth plugin compatible with both Windows and Mac. Bref is a compact synthesizer plugin that excels in generating synthetic percussion sounds.
Bref uses a modified version of Ephemere’s synthesis engine to produce a wide range of short, metallic sounds with a crisp quality. The plugin’s workflow is designed to be streamlined and intuitive, making it user-friendly and efficient.
Upon startup, the plugin randomly generates a pair of sounds. These sounds can be triggered with a MIDI note, which has a fixed pitch. This feature simplifies the use of the plugin inside drum racks. Users can blend the generated sounds together using the MORPH knob. Automating this knob can lead to dynamic and interesting results.
Each sound can be regenerated individually by clicking on the A and B buttons. Additionally, the entire state of the plugin can be regenerated by clicking the dice button at the bottom. While Bref does not have a preset system, the state of the plugin is saved when a project is saved in the host.
The user interface of Bref is also customizable. Users can resize the interface by dragging the handle located in the bottom right corner. This feature allows users to adjust the interface to their preference, enhancing their overall experience with the plugin.
