Kaizen DSP has launched Choroboros, a new multi-engine chorus plugin now available in public beta for macOS and Windows. The plugin brings together five distinct modulation engines, each offering Normal and HQ modes, for a total of ten chorus algorithms.
Choroboros is designed to provide a range of chorus processing approaches within a single interface. Each of the five engines focuses on a different modulation method, and switching between them preserves individual engine settings independently. This allows users to move between algorithms without losing previously configured parameters.
The five engines are structured as follows:
- Green uses Lagrange interpolation, intended for classic musical chorus effects.
- Blue combines cubic interpolation and Thiran allpass filtering, offering clean and transparent modulation.
- Red emulates bucket-brigade delay and tape-style processing, focusing on analog-inspired modulation characteristics.
- Purple introduces phase-warped and two-dimensional orbital modulation techniques.
- Black provides linear and ensemble modes designed for lightweight processing.
Each engine includes both Normal and HQ modes, resulting in ten total algorithms. According to Kaizen DSP, the engines are designed to maintain their own parameter states independently, enabling workflow flexibility when comparing or alternating between modulation types.
Choroboros also includes a built-in development panel that exposes internal DSP-related information. This panel provides live telemetry, signal flow routing visualization, real-time tone response curves, and access to user interface controls. The developer states that the panel is specifically designed around the plugin’s DSP structure rather than serving as a generic debug screen.
The plugin is open source and released under the GPLv3 license. It does not use copy protection.
Choroboros is available in the following formats:
- macOS: VST3, AU, and Standalone (Universal binary supporting Apple Silicon and Intel)
- Windows: VST3 and Standalone (x64 and x86)
Choroboros is available free of charge during the public beta period, which runs until May 1, 2026.
