Minimal Audio has reintroduced its Current synth with new licensing options, following negative feedback about its original subscription-only launch. The software developer now offers a rent-to-own program, Current All Access, and a perpetual license option for its flagship synthesizer.
The Current All Access plan includes the Current synthesizer, its full integrated effect suite, unlimited downloads of expansions from the Stream, and all of Current’s effects as standalone plugins. While on the plan, payments are saved in the form of store credit, which can be used to unlock perpetual licenses for any Minimal Audio product. Yearly subscribers save 33%. Every dollar spent on the plan is credited back as store credit at the end of the billing cycle. Monthly plans receive $15/month, while yearly plans receive $120/year + $60 in bonus credit. Store credit cannot be combined with other promotions such as bundle discounts or sales. All existing subscribers will be switched over to rent-to-own plans automatically.
More info on Rent-to-Own:
- Complete access to Current, all of its standalone effects, and expansion packs.
- Sessions, audio, and automation continue to work after cancellation. UI does not.
- No commitment. Cancel when you need. Credit never expires.
- Combine credit with cash to purchase any perpetual product.
- Receive store credit equal to your plan or more every billing cycle.
- 30-Day Free Trial (No Payment Info Needed)
The Current Perpetual Option is priced at $199 (billed once) and includes a one-time license purchase for a full version of Current, shipped with the complete engine, effects suite, and all factory content. This includes 340+ Presets, 180+ Wavetables, and 160+ Sounds. Users who purchase the perpetual license will receive a one-year Free Trial of the All Access plan, which includes all new effects and unlimited downloads of expansions in the Stream. After the one-year trial of All Access ends, users will be able to purchase expansion packs on the website as well as additional standalone effects. Playback and automation will still work on any effect after the All Access trial ends. Previous customers will receive 30% off through a Current Bundle upgrade.
More info on the perpetual option:
- One-time purchase to own Current with its complete sound engine & effects rack.
- One year trial of Current All Access
- Free 30-Day Trial (No Payment Info Needed)
- Playback and automation works on any effect after All Access trial.
Minimal Audio believes that these options provide the best path forward to maintain the low barrier-to-entry for Current that was initially envisioned, while still allowing users to make a one-time-purchase to own the synth. The company encourages new users to explore the Stream and hopes they will be inspired by the ecosystem it has created and the presets & sounds designed by artists it admires.
