Minimal Audio has recently released a video detailing new pricing options for their product, Current Synth, following widespread online criticism over its initial subscription-only offer.
The software was initially launched as a subscription-only product, leading to a backlash among online communities and social media users, exacerbated by allegations that YouTube influencers were given preview copies of the synth without being informed of the subscription-only model.
In response to the feedback, Minimal Audio has announced changes to its pricing model. In an apology video posted on YouTube (see below), the company expressed gratitude for the feedback and outlined its plans to rectify the situation. They intend to remove the subscription model and instead offer both one-time purchase options and rent-to-own options for Current and all its associated content.
While these changes are not yet live on the company’s website, they are expected to be implemented in the coming weeks, before the end of the 30-day trial period. The proposed pricing structure is as follows:
Perpetual Product Options
- Purchase any product or content pack individually.
- Current instrument with basic content ($200)
- Individual Current preset & wavetable packs (price to be determined, but expected to be reasonably priced)
- Individual Current effect rack plugins will continue with the $49 per effect
- Sound packs can be purchased individually as they are on the website
“All Access” Rent-To-Own
This option involves a monthly or yearly payment plan that includes access to all available content. After a year of payment, customers will receive credit equal to their subscription spending, which can be used to purchase any perpetual products of their choosing. All content will have a perpetual option, including the content packs.
Rent-to-Own Plans:
Includes:
- Current instrument (synth engine and effect rack)
- Current Stream access with unlimited downloads
- All individual Current effects as standalone plugins
- Everything that is added to Current in the future
Minimal Audio’s decision to revise its pricing model in response to customer feedback demonstrates its commitment to customer satisfaction and its willingness to adapt its business model to meet the needs and preferences of its user base.
