Modartt introduces new Airteq physically modeled sound design instrument plugin and standalone.

News: Modartt introduces new Airteq physically modeled sound design instrument plugin and standalone.

Modartt has launched Airteq, a physically modelled sound design instrument available as a plugin and standalone application. The instrument generates sound in real time through a model of air moving through virtual pipes, with a focus on evolving textures, atmospheric sounds and expressive performance control.

Airteq is based on Modartt’s Dynamic Aerophone Modeling technology, which models the response of each virtual pipe to its wind supply. Rather than using sampled sound sources, the instrument produces its audio from this physical model as it is played.

The software is designed around an imagined instrument informed by acoustic aerophones. Users can combine virtual pipe families, including flutes, reeds and mixtures, with each family providing its own timbral behaviour and response to changes in airflow.

In Airteq, modulation can influence the sound source itself by changing aspects of the airflow model while a note is sounding. This approach is intended to provide changing acoustic-like behaviour as parameters are modulated.

The instrument supports several MIDI performance controls:

  • Velocity
  • Pitch bend
  • Aftertouch
  • MIDI Polyphonic Expression, or MPE

Airteq includes more than 170 presets. The supplied collection includes evolving pads, cinematic textures, airy organic sounds, rhythmic pulses and presets configured for MPE performance. Users can edit the presets and save their own variations.

Airteq is available for $99 from the Modartt website. A free trial version is also available.
