ModeAudio has launched Airspace, a fusion of convolution reverb and stereo delay effect. Available in AU and VST formats, this plugin offers a vast range of sound design possibilities, thanks to its three-tier processing architecture, modulation capabilities, and an extensive bank of over 240 presets.
Airspace’s core is its internal bank of more than 450 impulse response samples. These samples range from authentic recordings taken in diverse locations such as a grade I listed cathedral, a decommissioned nuclear reactor, a chocolate factory, various churches, theatre spaces, and even a submarine. The library also includes a broad range of vintage digital, spring and plate reverb hardware, analog drum machines, found percussion, upright piano recordings, and folders of experimental loops and SFX textures.
These impulse response samples can be mixed and matched to create complex combinations, thanks to the plugin’s dual convolution reverb modules. Both reverb modules offer full AHR envelope controls, predelay and envelope curve amount options, a 4-band EQ, and an IR Size dial. This dial allows users to change the perceived size or length of the loaded IR via sample rate conversion.
Airspace also features a dynamic stereo delay module and a dedicated modulation section, which enhances the real-world character and vivid detail of convolution reverb. This feature-rich delay module can be tempo-synched to host DAW bpm and converted from stereo to mono via a ‘Link L + R’ button. It also offers crossfeed and separate high and low pass filtering options, with dedicated resonance dials for each.
The plugin’s delay modulation section allows users to modulate both the delay times and left and right channel panning using dedicated LFOs with five switchable shapes. Additionally, a 4-octave pitch-shifter can be applied to and blended with the delayed signal, and placed either outside of or inside the delay loop for glissandi-like effects.
Airspace is compatible with VST3 (.vst3) and Audio Unit (.component) formats for Mac OS 10.13+ (Intel & M1+) and Windows 11+. It requires 443MB of HD space for Mac or 362.6MB of HD space for Windows.
The plugin is priced at £60 (approximately $78 / €71). A 15-day free trial is also available.
