Native Instruments launches Super*Saw synthesizer co-created with GRAMMY-nominated producer A.G. Cook.

News: Native Instruments launches Super*Saw synthesizer co-created with GRAMMY-nominated producer A.G. Cook.

Native Instruments has launched Super*Saw, a new software synthesizer developed in collaboration with GRAMMY-nominated producer A. G. Cook. The instrument is the result of a two-year partnership focused on translating Cook’s layered supersaw sound design approach into a dedicated, performance-ready plugin.

Super*Saw takes its name from the supersaw technique, which layers multiple sawtooth waves with slight detuning to create a wide, harmonically dense texture. This approach has been a defining element in contemporary pop production and features prominently in Cook’s work with artists including Charli xcx, Beyoncé, Caroline Polachek, and Oklou.

According to Native Instruments, the development process began with Cook’s existing patches and production sessions. Working directly from these materials, the company’s design team built an instrument intended to consolidate complex multi-instance layering into a single, playable environment.

At the core of Super*Saw are two independent 16-saw oscillator banks. These provide the foundation for dense, detuned textures while allowing separate control over each bank. A central feature of the interface is a four-corner X/Y Morpher, which captures four distinct patch states and enables continuous interpolation between them. This system is designed to condense detailed automation into a single, performance-oriented control gesture.

The instrument also includes a range of musical constraint tools intended to support harmonic exploration:

  • Chord, scale, and quantize functions to guide note selection
  • Controlled off-grid deviation for intentional dissonance
  • Per-voice glide and offset controls for pitch movement and stereo motion

These features reflect Cook’s established production techniques, particularly the use of fluid pitch transitions and animated stereo fields.

Super*Saw ships with a preset library covering a variety of tonal directions, including layered harmonies, metallic dissonances, lead sounds, and extended glide effects. The instrument supports both mono and polyphonic operation, allowing it to be configured for leads, basses, stacked textures, or chordal parts within a single plugin instance.

Built-in processing includes:

  • Chorus, delay, and reverb effects
  • Low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass filters
  • 2-pole and 4-pole filter slope options

Super*Saw integrates with Native Instruments’ Komplete Kontrol keyboards and Maschine hardware, enabling parameter control and preset browsing within those ecosystems.

The visual identity of the instrument, including the logo and Morpher design, was created by Simon Whybray, a long-time visual collaborator of A. G. Cook.

Super*Saw is pronounced “Super Star Saw”.

Super*Saw is available at an MSRP of $99 / €99.
