News: NEXTALE Audio has released GranularBreaker, a music plugin combining granular synthesis with brick-breaker-inspired rhythm and melody control.

NEXTALE Audio has launched GranularBreaker, a music plugin that combines granular synthesis with controls inspired by brick-breaker games. The plugin uses a physics-based environment of balls, bricks, and zones to generate and shape rhythmic and melodic material.

GranularBreaker is designed to let users work between planned patterns and less predictable interactions. Its physics engine responds to brick and ball settings, while grid scale and mode options can be used to organise pitch. Rhythm quantisation and DAW synchronisation are also included.

Users can drag and drop their own audio samples into the granular engine or select material from the included preset list. Grain controls cover size, life, pitch, spread, and scan position, alongside a full ADSR envelope for shaping each grain.

The interface includes several brick and zone types that influence the movement and behaviour of the balls:

  • Normal bricks
  • Gravity and repulsion zones
  • Unbreakable bricks
  • No-spawn zones

Three operating modes are provided: a step sequencer, a marble-drop mode, and evolving break patterns. These modes offer different approaches to creating events within the grid-based environment.

GranularBreaker also includes onboard processing tools, including low-pass and high-pass filters, spatial audio controls, reverb, bitcrushing, saturation, and tempo-synchronised delay. The reverb section supports drag-and-drop impulse response loading, allowing users to use their own impulse responses.

For modulation, the plugin provides three LFOs that can be assigned to controls within the instrument. MIDI output is available for sending note data created by collisions to external software instruments, and generated melodies can be recorded to a MIDI track.

GranularBreaker is available for €39 from the NEXTALE Audio website or $45 through the KVR Marketplace. An introductory price of $35 is available until October 10, 2026. A free demo version is also available.
