NODES is a new modular audio effects environment designed to generate and route signal chains automatically. The software introduces two primary operating modes, Generate and Remix, offering different approaches to building effect networks.
NODES is built around the concept of interconnected processing nodes rather than fixed plugin chains. Instead of manually wiring effects together, users interact with a system that constructs signal paths and modulation routings based on selected parameters or chosen effects.
In Generate mode, six macro-style sliders are used to shape the structure and character of a patch in real time. As a slider is adjusted, NODES builds or modifies the signal chain dynamically. Each slider influences how nodes are added and connected within the patch.
The six Generate controls are:
- Move
- Rhythm
- Rage
- Space
- Wonk
- Glitch
Each node created within a patch is color-coded according to the slider responsible for its addition. This visual system allows users to see how their parameter choices contributed to the overall structure. According to the developer, every slider position results in a different configuration, enabling a wide range of possible builds.
Remix mode offers an alternative workflow. Instead of shaping the patch through macro controls, users select specific effects they want included. NODES then automatically determines the routing and modulation between those chosen elements.
The Remix process follows three steps:
- Select the desired effects for the patch.
- Press Generate to let NODES create the routing and modulation structure.
- Review the result and keep the configuration as needed.
This mode is designed for users who already have a defined palette of effects in mind but prefer to delegate the signal flow and modulation design to the system.
At launch, NODES includes 29 FX nodes, 24 modulators, and 2 signal input and output nodes. These components form the building blocks used in both Generate and Remix modes. The software constructs patches by combining and routing these elements according to user input.
In addition to its core audio functionality, NODES also supports several non-audio features within the patch environment. These include the ability to run classic games such as Doom, Tetris, and Snake, as well as the option to pin an image inside a patch. The developer states that these features do not interact with or affect the audio signal path.
Nodes is available at a launch price of $100, with an Early Access introductory price of $50. Thirty days after release, the listed price will be $199.
