Eavan is a new virtual instrument collection featuring traditional Irish folk instruments, recorded at Resonance Studio in Berlin. The library focuses on intimate, close-captured performances and presents a range of articulations and processed sounds designed for both traditional arrangements and broader compositional contexts.
Inspired by the acoustic character of instruments often heard in informal pub sessions, Eavan brings together four Irish aerophones alongside percussion. The collection includes tin whistle, Irish flute, concertina, and bodhrán, recorded with an emphasis on detail and proximity.
The developers describe the instrument as exploring not only established folk performance styles but also the expressive and textural qualities of these instruments. Recording took place in a small studio environment to achieve a direct and detailed sound, intended to place the listener close to the performance.
The core instrument lineup includes:
- Tin whistle
- Irish flute
- Concertina
- Bodhrán
Eavan provides up to 19 articulations across the instrument set. These include conventional playing techniques alongside more textural approaches, allowing for a range of musical applications. The library supports both traditional-style arrangements and uses such as songwriting, cinematic underscoring, and atmospheric layering.
Three microphone positions are available, offering control over spatial perspective while maintaining the close and detailed character of the recordings.
In addition to the acoustic instruments, Eavan includes a set of processed patches derived from the source material. These are designed to expand the sonic palette beyond traditional folk contexts. The processed content comprises:
In total, 13 processed patches are included. These sounds reinterpret the original recordings to provide additional textures suitable for contemporary production environments.
Eavan is positioned as a focused collection of Irish folk instruments with an emphasis on expressive nuance and studio clarity. Its design scope encompasses both authentic instrumental writing and more experimental or textural composition.
Eavan is priced at €79.00, with a limited-time introductory offer of €59.00.
