Parish Audio has launched Parametric Compressor, a dynamics processor designed to place independent compression bands at user-selected points across the frequency spectrum. Available in VST3 and AU formats, the plugin provides up to ten bands with separate compression and detector settings.
Rather than dividing the incoming signal into fixed crossover bands, Parametric Compressor allows each band to be positioned independently. Users can set a band’s centre frequency and width, then overlap bands where required without splitting the remaining spectrum into separate processing regions.
Each band includes dedicated Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release, and Makeup controls. Bands can be configured as narrow regions for focused processing, widened for broader frequency areas, or expanded to cover the full spectrum for broadband compression.
The plugin’s detector section allows each compressor band to respond to the main input, an external sidechain signal, or both. Detection can also be set to monitor either the band’s selected frequency region or the full signal spectrum, separating the source used to trigger compression from the region being processed.
Parish Audio describes this approach as suitable for tasks including managing low-frequency dynamics on a drum bus, reducing low-mid buildup, addressing upper-mid activity, and applying several overlapping bands to more complex source material.
An interactive spectrum display provides visual control over band placement and operation. Bands can be added directly on the graph, moved across the frequency range, and resized to adjust their affected width while displaying activity in each area.
