The Guilt Device is a new macro-driven effect plugin designed for guitar and other audio sources. Available for macOS and Windows, it combines multiple processing stages under a single control intended to shape sound through what the developer describes as an “emotional degradation” concept.
At the core of The Guilt Device is a single macro control labeled Guilt. This knob simultaneously adjusts several internal processes, including reverse delay, granular smear, pitch drift, ambience, damping, degradation, and signal instability. The design brings these parameters together into one continuous gesture, allowing users to move from a clean signal toward progressively altered and fragmented textures.
The developer describes the unit as one that “does not repeat your sound” but instead alters and reinterprets it. Rather than functioning as a traditional delay or reverb, the engine blends time-based processing with pitch and degradation elements to reshape incoming material in a coordinated way.
Six selectable modes change how the processing behaves:
- Confession
- Buried
- Aftermath
- Relapse
- The Weight
- Absolution
Each mode adjusts the internal response of the macro control, effectively changing how the signal is “remembered” and transformed. Users can switch between A and B states for comparison, and the plugin includes oversampling up to 4x.
The processing engine includes several distinct components working together under the macro:
- Reverse and granular processing: A reverse delay combined with a granular smear engine designed to blur the distinction between the original signal and its processed counterpart.
- Dark chamber ambience: A Schroeder-style reverb structure that provides spatial depth and resonance.
- Collapse and degradation stages: Controlled instability and signal breakdown intended to introduce decay, damping, and erosion as the macro increases.
The interface is hand-illustrated and available in both dark and light themes. Users can resize the window, monitor input and output levels, and engage clickless bypass. The layout centers around the main macro control, reflecting the plugin’s single-gesture workflow.
The Guilt Device is positioned for genres such as dark ambient, industrial, doom, post-rock, and cinematic scoring. It is also intended for users who want to apply evolving degradation and spatial transformation to clean instrumental or vocal recordings. Factory presets include Ghost Behind Each Note, Tape Grief, Memory Furnace, The Weight of One Note, and Aftermath Cathedral, offering starting points that reflect the plugin’s tonal direction.
The plugin is available in the following formats:
- macOS: VST3, AU, and Standalone
- Windows: VST3 and Standalone
A fully functional 14-day trial version is available.
The Guilt Device is available for a one-time purchase of $39. A 7-day no-questions refund policy is offered.
