News: prod. Shane releases Shane Is Angry, a free diode-clipper distortion plugin for macOS and Windows.

prod. Shane has launched Shane Is Angry, a free diode-clipper distortion plugin for macOS and Windows. Developed by the South Korea-based music producer, whose work is mainly in K-pop, the plugin is designed around a numerically modelled diode clipping circuit and provides a compact two-control interface.

Shane Is Angry includes Drive and Output controls. The Drive stage does not use a conventional waveshaping curve. Instead, it solves a diode clipper circuit on a per-sample basis, modelling a resistor feeding a capacitor node with diodes connected to ground.

According to prod. Shane, the circuit is evaluated using a backward-Euler companion model for the capacitor, alongside a damped Newton-Raphson iteration based on the Shockley diode equation. The diode configuration is used to determine the plugin’s clipping behaviour.

Three presets are supplied:

  • Warm Push
  • Angry
  • Furious

The interface uses a pixel-art ghost graphic that changes in response to the Drive setting. As the Drive control is raised, the ghost’s eyes turn red and individual pixels move away from the grid. At higher settings, the image is displayed in horizontal slices.

Shane Is Angry is available in VST3, AU, AAX and standalone formats. The macOS release is a Universal build for Intel and Apple Silicon systems, delivered through a signed and notarised .pkg installer. The Windows version is available as a 64-bit VST3 plugin.

prod. Shane also offers another free plugin, Shane Is Drunk, alongside paid audio software through the same storefront.

Shane Is Angry is available on a name-your-price basis, with a minimum price of $0.
