Rast Sound has launched ColorLab 2, a multi-effect plugin for Windows and macOS designed to provide musical color, motion, and cohesion within a streamlined workflow. The update introduces expanded processing options, additional effects, and refinements aimed at mix and creative applications across a range of sources.
ColorLab 2 is built around a flexible processing structure that allows users to operate in either Multiband mode, with separate Low, Mid, and High bands, or in Single Band mode for full-spectrum processing. The multiband configuration includes draggable crossover points, enabling detailed control over how effects are distributed across the frequency range.
The plugin includes 17 effects designed for tonal shaping, saturation, dynamics control, and textural enhancement. These are:
- Exciter Enhancement
- Drive Saturation
- Tube Saturation
- SClip Saturation
- HClip Saturation
- Tape Saturation
- Transformer Dynamics
- Transistor Saturation
- Air Enhancement
- Grit Texture
- Bleed Texture
- Punch Dynamics
- Silk Enhancement
- LoFi Texture
- DeEss Dynamics
- Density Dynamics
- GlueComp Dynamics
Each effect slot features individual Amount and Motion controls, allowing users to shape both intensity and movement. The Motion parameter is designed to introduce dynamic variation, contributing to evolving tonal characteristics. Additional options include Tape HQ and Bleed Clean modes, as well as a global section with Mix, Output, and a four-mode clipper.
ColorLab 2 is intended for use across drums, bass, vocals, keys, full mixes, and creative sound design contexts. The developer describes the plugin as being suited to applications where tonal character, movement, and cohesive processing are required within a single interface.
Other features include:
- Three-band processing with adjustable crossovers
- Single Band mode for streamlined workflows
- Global Mix and Output controls
- Four clipper modes
- 19 category-based factory presets
- Two interface sizes: 100% and 130%
- Zero-latency operation for real-time use
The plugin supports AU, VST3, and AAX formats and runs on macOS 10.13 and later, including Intel and Apple Silicon systems, as well as Windows 10 and 11. It requires a one-time online activation and can be authorized on up to three computers per license. After activation, the software operates offline. A PDF user manual is provided, and a 15-day demo version is available.
ColorLab 2 is offered as a free upgrade for existing ColorLab 1 users.
ColorLab 2 is available at an introductory price of €59, reduced from €99. The introductory offer expires on March 15th.
