RC MIX has launched RC RING and RC SNARE, two plugins designed for shaping the tone of recorded snare drums. The releases use the company’s AUTO technology to adapt processing to individual drums while focusing on the original recorded performance.
RC RING is a dedicated snare-resonance processor built around a single control. According to RC MIX, its AUTO technology identifies ringing frequencies across multiple frequency bands and applies processing to the tail of each drum hit, rather than the initial attack.
The control can be used to reduce snare overtones or increase the drum’s natural resonance. RC MIX positions RC RING as a way to record a snare without physical damping and adjust its resonance later in the mix.
RC SNARE is a dedicated snare channel strip combining transient shaping, adaptive frequency processing, resonance control, parallel compression, and harmonic enhancement. It provides six main controls intended to address separate aspects of snare tone:
- ATTACK shapes the initial stick hit.
- BODY adjusts the drum’s fundamental weight.
- CRACK controls high-mid presence and harmonic character.
- RING controls resonant overtones.
- PUNCH adds thickness through compression and analogue-style processing.
- AIR shapes high-frequency content and snare-strainer detail.
Within RC SNARE, AUTO technology adapts the BODY, CRACK, and RING sections to the drum being processed. The plugin is designed to work with existing snare recordings rather than replacing the original drum performance.
Both plugins are available for macOS 12 and later on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs in AU, VST3, and AAX formats. Windows 11 and later is supported in VST3 and AAX formats.
RC RING and RC SNARE are available now from RC MIX. RC RING is available as a free perpetual licence, while RC SNARE is priced at $49 USD with a perpetual licence. Neither plugin requires a subscription.
