Riot Audio has unveiled Candyfloss, a cinematic/ambient pad and pulse engine for Kontakt. This sample-based virtual instrument, designed for Native Instrument’s Kontakt 6, is specifically tailored to produce pads with rich, complex high-frequency elements.
Candyfloss draws on 60 organic sounds processed through various forms of granular treatment as a basis for musical sound design. The architecture and resulting sounds are more reminiscent of a synth. Candyfloss’s pulses, pads, and other sounds combine glistening high-frequency pearls, frothy mid-range rasps, and grainy streaks with close-mic’ed acoustic instrument drones and washes inside an engine that allows for extensive time-based modulation and motion.
The key features of Candyfloss include a custom sound design engine using state-of-the-art Kontakt 6 capabilities. It offers three sound categories, assignable to any of three layers: Body, Granular, Texture. The original source sounds include Acoustic Guitar Ebow, Bass Pluck, Braguinha Ebow, Charango, Electric Guitar, Glockenspiel, Gong/Prayer Bowl, Lap Steel, Low Flute, Piano. Additionally, there are 50 detailed processed sounds derived from these original sounds.
With over 200,000 possible sonic combinations and 160 presets (snapshots) in total – 90 pads, 30 pulses, 15 pad/pulse combinations, 15 experimental patches, 10 risers, Candyfloss provides a wide range of sound possibilities. Evolving Soundscapes are easy to create with Morphing and Movement tabs. The Morphing Parameters include High/Band/Low Pass, Formant, Distortion, while the Movement Parameters include High/Low Pass, Phaser, Distortion, Pitch, Volume. The instrument also features Velocity Sensitivity mapped to Volume for responsive playability.
The total size of sampled content in Candyfloss is 2.05 GB (1.7GB compressed). It includes Chorus, Phaser, Diffusion/Classic Style delay, BP/LP/HP Filters, Reverb, and EQ.
Candyfloss is priced at £89, but is currently available for £59.
