Roland has launched Melody Flip, a melody-generation plugin for Windows and macOS. Developed by Roland in collaboration with Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Melody Flip is available through Roland Cloud Manager and is intended to provide users with musical starting points for DAW-based production.
Melody Flip generates melody ideas from either original audio material or a selected Palette. The plugin includes more than 250 Palettes covering a range of genres and musical styles, which can be used as sources for exploring different melodic directions.
In addition to melodies, the plugin can generate chord, bass, and drum parts designed to work together as a musical foundation. These generated parts can be used when building beats, writing songs, or developing track arrangements.
Users can export generated ideas as audio or MIDI files, allowing the material to be edited, arranged, and further developed in a DAW. Roland states that Melody Flip is designed to present ideas for users to react to and refine, with creative decisions remaining under the user’s control.
Melody Flip supports VST3 and AU plugin formats. It is compatible with macOS 14, 15, and 26, as well as Windows 11.
The plugin is available through Roland Cloud Manager version 3.1.23 or later.
Melody Flip is included with all Roland Cloud membership levels, including the free tier, and requires Roland Cloud Manager 3.1.23 or later.
