S1gns Of L1fe Audio has launched Stellarizer, a performance-to-pattern MIDI sequencer designed to transform live input into related musical variations. Currently available as version 0.9.0 BETA, the plug-in focuses on capturing expressive performances and generating new MIDI patterns while retaining the character of the original phrase.
Stellarizer records incoming MIDI and analyzes elements such as timing, contour, velocity, note length, and sustain. From a single captured performance, users can explore musically related patterns that reflect the feel and structure of the source material. The plug-in generates MIDI rather than audio, allowing it to be paired with software instruments or external hardware within a compatible DAW environment.
The sequencer offers several capture modes to suit different workflows, including Free, synced, fixed-length, and custom-length recording. Once a phrase has been recorded, users can explore variations through the Pattern Playground, which provides discovery ranges labeled Near, Far, and Deep Space. These ranges are designed to generate ideas with varying degrees of contrast while maintaining a connection to the original performance.
Stellarizer includes a range of parameters for shaping generated patterns:
- Contour, rhythm, density, and articulation controls
- Adjustments for structure, timing, octave spread, and note length
- Controls for defining the musical relationship to the captured phrase
To support harmonic consistency, Stellarizer features automatic Scale Lock, helping keep generated material in key. Patterns can also be shifted across octaves instantly. Eight playable pattern slots are available, with options to switch immediately, on the next beat, or on the next bar. Captures and generated ideas can be stored in the Recordings atlas for later recall.
Users can save and organize presets, export MIDI files, or drag completed patterns directly into their DAW timeline. The plug-in follows the host’s tempo, transport, time signature, and playback position, ensuring integration within existing sessions.
Stellarizer requires a DAW or host capable of routing MIDI generated by plug-ins, with setup depending on the host application.
Supported formats include:
- Windows x64: VST3
- macOS 11 or newer: Universal 2 VST3 and AU Instrument
- Logic Pro and MainStage: dedicated Stellarizer MIDI FX Audio Unit
Version 0.9.0 BETA is described as a public beta release intended for practical creative use while continuing to develop through feedback from musicians, producers, and sound designers.
Stellarizer is available from S1gns Of L1fe Audio for $14.99, with a limited-time 50% discount available using the code STELLARBETA.
