SampleRoll has launched shft., a rhythmic multi-effect plugin for macOS designed to transform loops, drums, melodies and other incoming audio. The plugin combines a step sequencer, multiband processing and a collection of creative effects for generating rhythmic variations in real time.
At the centre of shft. is a 16-step sequencer, where users can draw rhythmic shapes for individual steps and apply them to the processed signal. The sequencer includes tempo synchronisation, swing and ratcheting controls, alongside envelope options named Swell, Pluck, Pulse, Ramp and Triangle.
Individual steps can trigger forward or reverse beat repeats, as well as granular processing. The granular section provides controls for pitch, scatter and grain size, allowing these treatments to be incorporated into sequenced patterns.
shft. also provides a three-band multiband mode that splits incoming audio into low, mid and high frequency ranges. Each band can run an independent rhythmic pattern, enabling separate sequencing approaches across different parts of the frequency spectrum. For example, a user could retain a consistent low-frequency pattern while applying different rhythmic activity to midrange and high-frequency material.
The plugin includes a Chaos control intended to generate new rhythmic variations. According to SampleRoll, this can alter parameters including step modes, ratchets and octave movement.
Further processing tools are included beyond the rhythmic sequencer:
- Eight modulation snapshot lanes and four LFOs.
- Multiband upward/downward compression inspired by OTT-style processing.
- Saturation and filtering.
- An FDN reverb with shimmer.
- A frequency-shifted delay that changes pitch as repeats continue.
The frequency-shifted delay is designed to move repeated signals upward or downward in pitch, with feedback-based processing available for more sustained delay behaviour. shft. is intended for real-time processing of audio sources including loops, drums and melodic material.
shft. is available now from SampleRoll for $19. It is available in VST3, Audio Unit and standalone formats for macOS, with support for Apple Silicon and Intel-based Macs.
