Silence+Other Sounds has unveiled its latest product, the Maleventum Pompeii library, designed for full Kontakt. This unique library is a collaboration with producer and ancient instruments expert Francesco Landucci, and features a wide range of horns and percussions from Ancient Rome, recorded in an original Roman water cistern environment at the archeological site of Cecina, Italy.
The Maleventum Pompeii library is based on a variety of horns and percussions from Ancient Rome. The instruments were recorded using both close and room microphones to capture a range of sounds, from intimate, breathy tones to more evocative ones. The library includes the following original instruments:
- Horns: Roman Cornu, Lituus, Roman Tuba, Aulos, and various types and sizes of goat animal horns.
- Flutes, whistles, and pan-flutes (syrinx).
- Drums & Percussions: Timpana, Tintinnabula, Crotala, Sistrum.
- Weapons: swords, spears, metals, helmets.
With 15 meticulously crafted Kontakt instruments, Maleventum Pompeii offers a wide range of composition possibilities. These range from playable solo horns instruments to evocative horns layers, from war horns sound design instruments to phrases, percussion loops, and one-shots. The instruments in Maleventum Pompeii are designed to evoke scenes of ancient battlefields and solemn pagan rituals, with a sonic palette that ranges from the cold colors of the north to the warm lands of the Mediterranean.
The Maleventum Pompeii library is ideal for TV, film, and game composers, as well as sound designers. It offers a unique instrument based on rare and meticulously recorded horns and drums, perfect for setting a ‘dark age’ and ‘ancient’ mood. While it fits particularly well with the epic genre, specifically fantasy and dark age movies, its versatility also makes it useful for post-horror, thriller, electronic, and ambient music.
For a limited time, the introduction to the Maleventum Pompeii library is being offered at a 30% discount. The expiry date for this offer is currently unknown. Additionally, all other libraries are currently discounted up to 51%.
