Soniccouture, a software developer, has launched a new virtual instrument named AC-DR Acoustic Drum Machine for Kontakt Player. The instrument is designed to emulate an old school-style drum machine, but with the application of modern sampling techniques, such as round-robin samples, multi-channel sounds, and generative sequencers.
The AC-DR Acoustic Drum Machine aims to produce drum sounds that are chunky, dry, and tight, but also lively. The instrument only uses organic real-life sources, offering warm acoustic tones that can be tweaked and shaped like analogue. The features of the instrument include microphones, contact transducers, transformers, and echo chambers.
One of the key features of the AC-DR Acoustic Drum Machine is the ‘Robin Power’. This feature ensures that each hit is unique, with 20 hits per drum, both normal and accent. The sets are hand-edited, with each drum being recorded in large sets of hits. These are then edited by ear to produce a tight set of 10 random hits that sound as close to identical as possible.
The instrument also offers ‘Organic Spaces’, which includes two echo chambers. All the bass drum, snare, rimshot, and tom samples were re-amped in Rockfield’s 2 echo chambers. The resulting reverb samples can be blended as a separate channel, providing an essential extra building block for drum design.
As an introductory offer, the AC-DR Acoustic Drum Machine is available at a 30% discount until December 29th.
