Sonora Cinematic has launched the latest version of its innovative instrument, Poiesis Cello 2, now enhanced by the company’s proprietary Aria engine. This update introduces a plethora of new creative controls, features, and presets, further augmenting the expressiveness and versatility of this unique instrument.
First introduced in 2021 as Sonora Cinematic’s inaugural product, Poiesis Cello 2 swiftly attracted a loyal following among musicians and sound designers. The instrument’s distinctive sounds, derived from performances by esteemed cellist Alan Black, are characterized by rich timbral shifts, delicate shadings, octave harmonics, bow bounces, and reiterations. These features enable users to generate dynamic textures that range from tender and reflective to nervously unsettling.
The launch of version 2 sees the Kontakt Player instrument incorporate Sonora Cinematic’s Aria engine, which made its first appearance earlier this year in Aria Vocalscapes and was subsequently used in the highly popular Panorama Guitars.
Retaining the original sample content, the transition to the Aria engine opens up new creative avenues for this expressive instrument. Notable enhancements include the ability to crossfade or stack articulations, utilize effects from the comprehensive effects library, apply filters to each layer, and construct evolving soundscapes using the intuitive XY pad.
Poiesis Cello 2 now comes in two distinct formats:
1. Poiesis Cello is the instrument hosted in the Aria Engine, which concentrates on generating beautiful, ever-evolving textural soundscapes by blending two articulations together in a 2-layer engine with a record-ready mix.
2. Poiesis Cello Articulation Keyswitch introduces a new customizable key-switching system that allows players to arrange single articulations traditionally (via key switching) or have velocity dictate the articulation being triggered.
In addition, Poiesis Cello 2 includes nearly 100 new presets, offering users an excellent starting point for crafting their own sound.
Commenting on the release, Sonora Cinematic founder Alessandro Mastroianni stated, “With the new implementation of the Aria Engine, we have expanded the beautiful sonic palette of Poiesis Cello. It is now more versatile and unique, allowing users to craft sounds ranging from natural and acoustic to heavily processed, whilst always maintaining an organic quality. This instrument really can add depth and a cinematic quality to any production.”
Poiesis Cello 2 is compatible with the free Kontakt Player v7.7+.
Poiesis Cello 2 is currently available at an introductory price of £59 ex VAT (normally £82.50) until 5th December. Existing Poiesis Cello users can access all the new features with a FREE upgrade.
