Sound Magic has launched Neo Piano Chapters: F308, a virtual concert grand piano for Windows and macOS. The instrument is designed around the character of an Italian 10-foot concert grand, with inspiration drawn from the Fazioli F308.
Neo Piano Chapters: F308 combines sampled piano material with Sound Magic’s Hybrid Modeling Technology. According to the developer, the instrument is intended to provide a balanced response across the keyboard, with clear tone, sustained resonance, and continuity between its lower and upper registers.
The library is part of Sound Magic’s Virtuoso Grade Piano series and includes 127 true sampled velocity layers. This corresponds with the maximum velocity resolution available in traditional MIDI 1.0. Sound Magic states that the layers are intended to provide detailed dynamic transitions in response to changes in playing velocity.
When used with a compatible MIDI 2.0 controller, F308 supports Sound Magic’s FreeForm Layers V2 technology in combination with its Hybrid Modeling Engine. The developer states that this configuration provides more than 512 effective dynamic layers for higher-resolution performance control.
The instrument uses recorded samples as its source material, while the Hybrid Modeling system is designed to extend playback behaviour and reduce storage requirements. Neo Piano Chapters: F308 requires approximately 550 MB of storage, rather than the larger installations associated with some multi-sampled piano libraries.
Sound Magic has also included MDIR Sound Stage and High-End Microphone Modeling Technology. These features are designed to allow users to select different spatial and tonal perspectives, including more intimate studio-style settings and larger concert-hall environments, without relying on a single fixed microphone configuration.
Neo Piano Chapters: F308 is intended for projects where piano is a central musical element, including solo piano recordings, film scoring, contemporary classical work, ambient productions, and ballads.
The Neo Piano Yosemite Engine provides the instrument’s playback platform. Its feature set includes:
- Hybrid sampling and modeling
- FreeForm Layers V2 and MIDI 2.0 support
- Polyphonic aftertouch support and high-resolution pedal control
- Architecture designed for fast loading and efficient CPU and memory use
Neo Piano Chapters: F308 is available in VST3 and Audio Units formats for Windows and macOS.
Neo Piano Chapters: F308 is available at an introductory price of $99 USD, with a regular price of $199 USD. Sound Magic states that the introductory offer is scheduled to run through November 27, 2026.
