Splash Sound has launched Retrowave 2, a virtual instrument plugin and standalone application for Windows and Mac. This innovative tool represents the next phase in the development of the widely-used synthwave library, combining the strength of sampled instruments with the versatility of modern synthesis.
Retrowave 2 was crafted using iconic synthesizers such as the Ensoniq Mirage, Yamaha DX7, Jupiter 8, Juno 106, and D-50, resulting in an authentic 80s sound palette. The plugin comes with 129 unique presets, each one a separately sampled instrument. This not only provides users with a wealth of classic synthwave sounds but also allows for the creation of new, unique sound textures.
The plugin includes several new features. These include two oscillators, LFO and AHDSR envelopes, and a built-in EQ and FX Rack. The build version is 1.0.3 and it was released on October 8, 2024. It boasts 9320 WAV format samples at 44.1kHz/24bit, stereo, with a total samples size of 8.2 Gb. The instruments include 30 Basses, 20 Keys, 26 Leads, 24 Pads, and 29 Plucks. Additionally, the plugin incorporates a standard waveforms oscillator and a bass oscillator, as well as an effects rack with EQ, Compressor, Phaser, Delay, and Convolution Reverb.
In terms of system requirements, Retrowave 2 is compatible with Windows 7 or newer and MacOS 10.14 or newer. It requires a plugin host that supports VST3 or AU, with the caveat that AAX (Pro Tools) is not supported. Standalone mode (App) is also available. The download size for MacOS is 150MB + 6.63 GB Samples, while for Windows it is 49MB + 6.63 GB Samples. For optimal performance, it is recommended to have 3 GB of RAM or more and an SSD (solid-state drive).
