News: Sugoi Audio has released CURVA, a free movement and coloration effect that transforms audio into a football.

Sugoi Audio has launched CURVA, a movement and coloration effect that visualises modulation as the flight of a football across a virtual pitch. The plugin combines panning, filtering, and pitch movement into a single gesture-based workflow designed to link visual motion with audible change.

CURVA is based on the observation that the curved trajectory of a football free kick resembles automation data. Within the interface, horizontal movement determines stereo position, vertical movement shapes brightness, and the rise and fall of the ball introduces Doppler-style pitch variation. Instead of programming separate automation lanes, users define a single flight path and the three processes unfold together.

The plugin supports both tempo-synchronised movement and independent timing. A dedicated Kick mode can trigger a new shot in response to incoming transients, with Attack and Release controls shaping how each movement launches and settles. This allows the motion to respond dynamically to rhythmic material.

Four built-in striker models provide distinct motion styles:

  • Curly produces wide, bending trajectories.
  • Rocket generates flatter and heavier shots.
  • Lofty creates higher arcs.
  • Jinx introduces less predictable movement.

A Chaos function can randomise ball flights, while Defend activates a goalkeeper that interacts with the shot. When Save is enabled, the goalkeeper intercepts the ball and returns it as an echo. The stereo position of this return follows the goalkeeper’s location on the pitch, linking spatial animation with delay behaviour.

Five goalkeeper types are available, each offering a different style of response:

  • Classic delivers a clean echo.
  • Wall produces a gated impact effect.
  • Turbo creates a bright slapback-style return.
  • Bounce sends the signal across the stereo field.
  • Phantom adds a shimmering echo with adjustable character.

For users who prefer precise control, Draw mode allows custom trajectories to be sketched directly onto the pitch. Paths can reverse direction, loop, cross over themselves, or form shapes that would not be possible in a physical space. Drawn movements can be locked and saved within the session.

CURVA also includes four loudness-matched Scenes named Dawn, Noon, Dusk, and Night. These introduce different analog-style tonal characteristics, ranging from softer warmth to darker saturation. The tonal shaping operates alongside the movement system, allowing both modulation and coloration to be combined within a single interface.

The visual-to-audio relationship positions CURVA as both a modulation tool and a creative workflow instrument. Subtle trajectories can introduce gentle motion to vocals, pads, or sustained instruments, while more pronounced curves, randomisation, and goalkeeper interactions can generate rhythmic transitions, animated percussion effects, and evolving stereo movement.

The plugin ships with 57 presets covering vocals, synths, guitars, bass, drums, pads, ambient textures, transitions, and experimental sound design. True mid-side width processing is included, along with an optional Low Anchor feature designed to maintain a centred low-frequency range. A Mix control allows the processed signal to be blended with the dry input, reaching full bypass at zero.

CURVA is available for macOS, including Intel and Apple Silicon systems, and Windows. It is provided in AU, VST3, signed AAX, and standalone formats. The plugin is completely free, with no licence key, trial countdown, or credit card required.
