Sync Audio has launched Fractiv, a new granular designer intended for structured and controllable sound transformation. The plugin is designed for use in music production, sound design for games, film and television, and experimental audio work.
According to Sync Audio, Fractiv is built to provide granular processing with a focus on intentional control and repeatable results. The developer describes the plugin as a response to granular tools that rely heavily on randomness, positioning Fractiv as a system where grain behavior can be shaped directly and predictably.
Fractiv functions as both a granular effect and a sampler instrument. It can be used as an insert effect on incoming audio or as a playable instrument, capturing and sampling audio sources in real time. The workflow is designed to allow users to begin shaping sound immediately after loading or recording audio, without extended setup.
At the core of the interface is the Grain Pad, which provides real-time control over grain behavior. Users can interact directly with parameters that influence grain size, movement, and timing, allowing for hands-on manipulation during playback. This design is intended to make granular processing feel interactive and responsive.
Modulation within Fractiv is tied directly to individual grain cycles. As grains change in size and position, associated modulation evolves alongside them. This approach allows parameters to shift in relation to the granular structure itself, rather than operating independently.
Fractiv is designed to support a wide range of sound sources and applications. Intended use cases include transforming musical material such as vocals and instruments, as well as creating textures, atmospheres, and sound effects for media production. The plugin supports MIDI learn and includes a preset system to facilitate repeatable workflows.
Sync Audio states that Fractiv was developed in collaboration with working sound designers and music producers. The feature set was shaped through iterative development informed by practical production requirements across music, game audio, and film and television sound design.
